I was the in the shower (where all good ideas spring from) and thinking about all the dilemma’s people now face in life. The first one that popped into my mind was the ‘multi-talented’ dilemma. People say to focus one one thing and then they say be true to yourself. Yikes, where do you go from there. I actually have done a lot of work around that particular dilemma and hence why a new project I’m doing kicks off with that very subject. So what is a dilemma?.
A situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives, especially ones that are equally undesirable.
synonyms: quandary, predicament, difficulty, problem, puzzle, conundrum, awkward situation, tricky situation, difficult situation, difficult choice, catch-22, vicious circle, plight, mess, muddle;
I was particularly interested in the fact that a dilemma is a choice of 2 negative things according to one meaning on Google. In fact, that makes sense because if both were super positive, then the decision would feel easy and exciting. Let’s start with your dilemma, I personally have one hanging around and I’m always interested to work with it and see what it tells me. You may feel that your dilemma is between two good things, then let’s explore that. Okay, lets say… Your rent has gone up and you need to make more money, you have now been offered a job with more money which is great, but you love your current job, it’s got more opportunities and the new job is offering more money but lacks opportunities – what do you do? At this point, neither one seems positive because both don’t offer the right solution.
So, firstly you can see that the dilemma arises to not only flag the need for change and focus but to access your deep values and spiritual self in order to make a decision based on something more than ‘what is’. The question that arises often needs to be answered from a deeper part of you, a part that knows your soul’s purpose, your values and the path you need to travel for your highest good. To access this part of yourself is super important and it seems to me that people are having to be more ‘conscious’ in their decision-making. I was excited to explore and share this process with others at my talks, to reveal ways to access that part and see the opportunity for growth and positive change.
